about
Holding On is a free single to celebrate Christmas 2012! Featuring the magnificent Becky Roberts on vocals, it is the culmination of work on a demo that lay unfinished for months and I recently decided to finish amid the inspiration that always comes to me with laborious academic study.
The result is a warmer, more acoustic-sounding effort than most may be used to from me of late. Peppered with bright harmonies and a swung groove, it's one to wrap up to in the short winter days!
In it, I've opted to share my musings on what it means to hold on to God's promises when we don't see what we're hoping for straight away, or even after a long time and comparing that to the process fo planting a seed. I guess I'm wondering which I value more, the process or the fruit and it's a process I thought I'd share. In terms of my own personal journey, it's almost a rebuttal to "Hope Deferred" which can be found on my album, "Perspective":

lyrics
Watching and waiting as the, leaves fall,
There's a beauty in the dusk of the year.
The golden light that bathes the sky and illuminates home,
Brings a gentle vale of warmth as we go.
Holding, onto every promise you've made,
Knowing, the seed that has been planted will need,
More than, just a few sweet moments to be seen.
Nights are drawing longer as the days pass,
And we're wrapping up to deal with the cold.
The lights come on and pierce the dark and bring hope to the lost,
Speak a truth first told in days of old.
Holding, onto every promise you've made,
Knowing, the seed that has been planted will need,
More than, just a few sweet moments to bear fruit.
Cos impatience is a thief,
Dealing joy under the table!
Keeping eyes off the truth and onto any other thing.
My friend don't you be hustled!
(Don't) forget how rich you've been made to this day.
Holding, onto every promise you've made,
Knowing, the seed that has been planted will need,
More than, just a few sweet moments to bring life.
Bridge
Holding on, to your promises to this day.
Not always easy to go on, but it won't always be this way.
