5 years on from 'Surrender', Dr. J presents: 'Journey' a collection of songs which plumb the depths of reflection and prayer of a man following Jesus around the world in a soulful way.

Journey kicks off with birdsong and chopped vocals recorded in Durban, South Africa. 'Like No Other' is a blend and an homage to the childrens' worship song 'There's No One Like Jesus', sung originally in Zulu, its injected with thunderous low end, broken beats and percussion to create something packed with colour, energy and joy.

Lead single 'Forever' is a nu-disco/deep house roller pulling soundscapes from central Switzerland's crunchy snow whilst lyrically repeats an ancient Hebrew refrain about the enduring nature of God's love. 'Adoration' pulls from a similar thematic well but expresses the sentiment through bottom-heavy hip-hop rhythms and chopped melodic utterances from a music box playing a 17th century hymn.

'In the Early Hours' draws upon a battle with depression which gave birth to a beautiful electronic and cinematic lament with blues overtones, while 'Ask or Imagine' starts in one place and ends somewhere quite different, much like when you get better than you dare to hope or ask for.

2nd single 'Belong' reflects on personal experiences with racist abuse both at home and abroad, set against to hope of heaven woven through a cinematic soul soundscape.Moving into the idyllic 'Leaving Orphanhood Behind' this piece takes stock of the moment and the wholeness a relationship with Jesus offers us, adorned with lush string arrangements.

A Breath in Eternity is a stark reminder of the relative brevity and fragility of life, drawing together a host of sonic palates, sombre motifs interact with brooding undertones. NIght Fall is a messge to my beautiful wife that celebrates dates set under purple skies and then the stars. A sweet R&B sonnet set to counterpointed melodies.

The album comes into land with the jazz-funked Afrobeat of 'Space & Time' an epic roller, kitted out with dreamy string arrangements, call and response steel pans & harps and an irresistable bassline, all in celebration of the wonder of God's creation. Rounding everything off is 3rd single, 'For Me', a haunting prayer of the displaced children of this world for whom migration is a matter of life and death. In the face of the ultimate cost, the questions posed by the prophet Amos and the Lord Jesus himself ring out in each chorus.

Recorded and produced in Central & Northern Switzerland, Durban, South Africa, London, Journey represents an inter-continental voyage, drawing from a host of sources. I'm thankful to Jesus for the opportunity to travel and the gifts of a wife and family stemming from the story that became 'Surrender' over 5 years ago.
