A year in the making, Immanuel is a Christmas anthem forged in jazz-funk and film-score bombast - encrusted in sleigh bells and hybrid percussion.

Originally conceived as an instrumental from a Maschine jam during a carol service rehearsal in 2019, this version features a choir made up of family and friends old and new who graciously lent their voices to bring the full and final vision of the song to life! Immanuel is my idea of what the announcement of Jesus' birth might have sounded like if I was allowed anywhere near the helm of the angel armies!

***This song is a gift and you can download it for free if you like, but all profits from sales will go to support Cromer Beachcomber Guest House in North Norfolk, which has been supporting folk who need space and support throughout the pandemic, by providing those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to get away a place on the beautiful coast.***


About Immanuel

I wanted to create a piece that captures the Christmas story simply and as the bible tells it in Isaiah 7:14: Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (which means 'God with us'). This is the essence of the message - God lives among us, here and now through Jesus and continues to do so today!

As I revisited the 2019 instrumental this year in the wake of lockdown, I reflected on wanting to share the joy of the Christmas story for the church, and using the voice of the church from all over to communicate it. As such, I decided to ask the choir members to sing the lyrics in their mother/other tongues, so represented are:

French
Japanese
Spanish
Portuguese
Ningala
Catalan
German
Swiss-German
Mauritian Creole
Italian

In addition to the Engilsh.

This release features the vocal version, the instrumental (2020 remaster) and the orchestral mix featuring my wonderful guest vocalists mixed as a unique version of the song, stripping back the rhythm section.

Thank you to every single one of you who brought this crazy vision of mine to life! I'm so grateful for your time and voices in creating something special to gift to folks with a message sorely needed after such a hard year.
